PITTSBURGH — Discount Tire has opened its first retail store in Pennsylvania, in Pittsburgh, two-and-a-half years after disclosing it was targeting the Keystone state as an area for growth.
It also opened a store the same day in Hinesville, Ga., extending the dealership's reach to 1,062 stores in 36 states.
The new store in Pittsburgh is a six-bay store typical of Discount Tire's standard layout; it's located in Ross Township about eight miles north of downtown Pittsburgh.
"Pennsylvania has been a state we've wanted to be a part of for years," Darwin Medearis, assistant vice president of Discount Tire's Great Lakes region, said.
"We are excited to bring our excellent service, knowledgeable employees, fair prices, and comprehensive selection to this great state to meet the needs of our new customers."
Discount Tire did not disclose its investment to build the store, nor the facility's size or employment.
In 2017, Discount Tire indicated it was interested in opening multiple stores in the region but it did not elaborate then.
In Georgia, the new store brings to 38 the number of outlets the Scottsdale, Ariz.-based firm operates in the Peach state. The dealership has plans to open more in the coming years, it said, without elaborating.
Hinesville is a city of about 33,000 located roughly 40 miles southwest of Savannah in Georgia's Atlantic plain.
