Conti opens new campus headquarters in Hanover

HANOVER, Germany — Continental A.G. has opened its new headquarters in Hanover, a six-building campus with space for its 2,400 employees who work in the group's Tires and ContiTech group sectors.

The campus is located in Pferdeturm, a well-developed area in Hanover. Conti celebrated its 150th anniversary in October of 2021.

More than 150 guests were on hand for a ceremony to mark the official opening of the headquarters, including representatives from business, politics and culture, Conti said.

"We have created a place where our vision, values and culture can come alive in an open, connected and sustainable working environment," Continental CEO Nikolai Setzer said. "It is an expression of our sense of togetherness and a symbol of our long-term aspirations."

Conti said the facility is built with an integrated open-space concept, with areas for interaction and collaboration as well as quiet zones for focused work

The complex features a suspended bridge that spans 75 meters, crossing Hans-Böckler-Allee to link the northern and southern parts of the campus.

Employees moved to the campus on Dec. 1. Conti said the buildings feature "state-of-the-art communication and media equipment," allowing work to be flexible.

Instead of assigned workstations, employees can choose where they want to work using a desk booking system.

"We chose the architecture with functionality in mind. It will enhance our performance and foster value creation," Setzer said. "The layout of the building will strengthen our culture of innovation and networking by facilitating informal, interdisciplinary interaction between our teams. This physical proximity will ensure intensive exchange and an inspiring, creative working environment."

Conti said the complex meets the German government's criteria for climate-friendly new buildings and its requirements for its sustainable building quality seal. The roofs of the parking garages have solar panels. Rainwater is collected, and a geothermal system harnesses the Earth's energy to heat and cool the building.

The green roof areas are equipped with photovoltaic systems that generate up to 300,000 kilowatt hours of electricity a year, which is used to charge electric cars and bicycles at 100 charging points in the two parking garages.

Open office areas were designed using natural materials such as wood, stone and natural fibers. Slatted ceilings and mobile partitions dampen acoustics.

Munich-based architecture firm Henn designed the new corporate headquarters.
