BOWIE, Md. — The Tire Industry Association (TIA) has elected five members to its board of directors, four to serve three-year terms and the fifth for a one-year term to fill a vacancy.
Four of the five are new to the board, with only Jim Pangle, a consultant for Fountain Tire of South Lethbridge, Alberta, serving currently on the board.
The new directors will take office on Nov. 4, during TIA's annual membership meeting at Caesars Palace Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. They will join 13 other directors to make up the association's 18-member board, TIA said.
The directors elected to three-year terms are:
- T.J. Trum, general counsel for Pomp's Tire Service Inc. in Kansas City, Kan.;
- Russell Devens, director of safety and risk management for McCarthy Tire Service, Wilkes-Barre, Pa.;
- Debra Hamlin, environmental, health, safety and sustianability director, commercial division, Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations, Nashville, Tenn.; and
- Mr. Pangle.
Dean Schwartz, owner of Lloyd's Tire & Auto Care in Santa Cruz, Calif., is filling the one-year vacancy created when Mason Hess, of Purcell Tire & Rubber Co., was elected secretary of the board earlier this year.
In addition to his role as general counsel for Pomp's Tire, Mr. Trum is chair of the American Commercial Tire Network (ACTN) Human Resources and Safety Committee and is a licensed legal counsel and certified senior professional in human resources by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM-SCP). He has hybrid tire industry experience in legal, operations, safety and human resources.
Mr. Devens has more than 30 years of experience in safety, law enforcement, security, insurance and risk management. He is a Level 400 Commercial Tire Service TIA instructor, a Part 48 Certified and Part 46 instructor with the Mine Safety & Health Administration and a certified commercial vehicle inspector with the U.S. Department of Transportation as well as being 30-hour general industry certified with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
Mr. Pangle has been involved in the tire industry since 1969, starting with Goodyear in the early 1970s before joining Fountain Tire in the retail/commercial store segment. During this time, he partnered with Fountain Tire and owned a retread plant; in 2000, he joined the corporate side of Fountain Tire to work on store operations.
Ms. Hamlin previously was environmental manager for Bridgestone Retail Operations' retail network. Since joining Bridgestone in 1997, she has developed and implemented the company's scrap tire management program and was instrumental in developing the firm's Tires4ward program, which works to assure that every tire removed from a vehicle at their retail locations is sent to a beneficial end use.
Mr. Schwartz has been active in automotive aftermarket since 1989, and in 2001 became owner of Lloyd's Tire & Auto Care in Santa Cruz. He is an ASE master automotive technician, under-car specialist, service consultant and TIA auto service advanced instructor.
"We are honored to welcome the new members of our 2019-2020 board of directors," TIA CEO Roy Littlefield said. "We are confident each new member will help us continue our mission of providing government representation, tire safety and education to all."
