PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. — TBC Corp. has promoted 20-year company veteran Gary Skidmore to senior vice president and general manager for its Big O Tires franchise business, succeeding Brian Maciak just a year after he was named to the Big O Tires post.
In his new role, Skidmore will continue to focus on driving value and creating new opportunities for the Big O brand, TBC said.
Skidmore has been with TBC for 20 years in various leadership roles, most recently as divisional vice president, Big O Tires East. Skidmore's experience in the organization position him perfectly to take the Big O Tires brand to the next level, TBC said.
He started his automotive industry career nearly 38 years ago, as a tire changer in a Big O store his family owned. His father, Bill Skidmore, is a member of the Big O Tires Hall of Fame.
"Gary's collaborative leadership style, and extensive and considerable knowledge of our franchisees and business experiences in the field, will help ensure further growth and success of Big O Tires," TBC President and CEO Sam Kato said.
"TBC, as a franchisor, is committed to keeping Big O franchisees moving on the road ahead, as Big O Tires is an indispensable part of TBC's sustainable growth strategy."
TBC did not comment further on Maciak's status, who also is listed on the TBC corporate web site as executive vice president, general counsel and chief compliance officer of TBC, He was named the Big O Tires business top executive in July 2022, succeeding the retiring Jim Bull.
There are over 470 Big O Tires retail outlets throughout the western and midwestern regions of the U.S. The business was named an Entrepreneur Top 500 Franchise, and the No. 1 wheels/tires franchise brand.
The announcement comes a month after TBC completed the sale of its company-owned NTB and Tire Kingdom retail networks and four months after TBC sold 13 company-owned Big O Tires outlets in the Kansas City metro area to MFA Oil Co.
