BOWIE, Md. — Mason Hess, area manager for Purcell Tire & Service Center, has been elected secretary of the Tire Industry Association (TIA), putting him in line to become the group's president in 2021.
Mr. Hess will begin his term as TIA secretary on Nov. 4, at the end of the association's Global Tire Expo in Las Vegas. His being elected secretary for 2019-20 means he automatically will become vice president in 2020-21 and assume the TIA presidency in November 2021, the association said.
A third-generation tire professional, Mr. Hess has had a 20-year career in the industry, beginning as a warehouse laborer with GCR Tire. During his career, he has been a technical adviser, vice president, area manager, manager and trainer, working for both large and small tire dealerships as well as Bridgestone Americas Inc., TIA said.
He joined Purcell Tire in 2009 when Purcell acquired D&D Tire Inc.
Mr. Hess has managed more than 100 service technicians both directly and indirectly, and also helped developed TIA's Earthmover Tire Service training and certification program, the association said.
He's on the TIA board of directors as a member of the Membership and Training Committee.
