COLOMBO, Sri Lanka — Global Rubber Industries (GRI) has hired tire industry veterans Giorgio Gramegna and Simon Michael as directors for Europe and Middle East/Africa and South America, respectively.
GRI said the hirings signal its "commitment to being close to and serving customers in those regions."
Gramegna has more than 20 years of experience in the tire industry, including at senior positions at Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd. and Trelleborg Wheel Systems, GRI said. He will lead GRI's growth efforts in Europe where his "experience and expertise will be invaluable."
"I am excited to join GRI and help the company achieve its ambitious goals in Europe," Gramegna said. "I look forward to working with the team to develop innovative solutions that meet the needs of our customers and drive growth for GRI."
Michael has more than 25 years in the tire industry, with positions in companies such as Cooper Tire & Rubber Co., Pirelli & C. S.p,.A. and Zafco International, GRI said. He is tasked with leading GRI's efforts to grow its business in the Middle East, Africa and South America regions.
"I am thrilled to be part of GRI's expansion drive and to work with the team to explore new markets and opportunities," Michael said. "GRI's commitment to sustainability and innovative approach to business is something I am excited to be a part of."
GRI Managing Director Prabhash Subasinghe said: "As GRI continues to expand, we are committed to attracting key individuals with valuable knowledge, experience and shared values to drive our growth strategy. Giorgio and Simon's expertise will help us strengthen our presence in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and South America, and provide our customers with the highest quality products and services."
Founded in 2002 by Subasinghe, GRI produces specialty tires — materials-handling solid tires, radial agriculture tires and construction tires — built sustainably using natural rubber harvested in Sri Lanka.
The company relocated its U.S. sales office in September 2022 to Research Triangle Park, N.C.
