AKRON — Goodyear has hired Don Metzelaar to be its senior vice president of its global manufacturing and supply chain, a new position.
Metzelaar, who comes to Goodyear from Johnson Controls International, begins the new role Jan. 13.
Metzelaar's duties include include global and regional manufacturing, supply chain, environmental, health and safety, business continuity, manufacturing engineering and quality.
Metzelaar's hiring reflects a reorganization of Goodyear's leadership.
Previously, Senior Vice President Chris Helsel led a combined global operations and technology group. With Metzelaar onboard, Helsel will concentrate on Goodyear's global technology, including product design and innovation.
"Manufacturing is at the core of our business, and the transformation of our manufacturing operations is central to our go-forward strategy," Goodyear CEO and President Mark Stewart said.
"With Don's proven record of developing, enhancing and leading global footprints, I'm confident his leadership will accelerate our manufacturing transformation and leverage our scale for operational efficiency and customer impact."
Goodyear said Metzelaar has "more than 30 years of experience leading complex, world-class manufacturing operations."
At Johnson Controls International, Metzelaar was chief manufacturing officer and global vice president, and transformed manufacturing processes with a focus on factory flows and systems integration, according to Goodyear.
Prior to working at Johnson Controls, Metzelaar held operations leadership roles at Whirlpool Corp., Honeywell International and Motorola.
He will report to Stewart.
