BRUSSELS — The European Tyre & Rubber Manufacturers' Association (ETRMA) has hired Adam McCarthy, an experienced government and policy executive, to succeed the retiring Fazilet Cinaralp as the group's secretary general.
McCarthy brings 20-plus years of experience working in public policy and governmental affairs holding positions in both private and public sectors. He comes to the ETRMA from Cobalt Institute, where he was president for the 3 ½ years, representing the producers, users, recyclers and traders of cobalt.
Cinaralp, who has held the ERTMA secretary general's post since 2006, will remain as senior adviser to the ETRMA board for the first quarter of 2023 to help ensure a smooth transition.
ETRMA President Franco Annunziato lauded Cinaralp for her 17 "pioneering and successful years" at the helm of the association, during which she fostered engagement and trust between the tire/rubber industry and European and global decision-makers towards ensuring "that policies and regulations are science-based and effectively enforced."
"It is now time for me and ETRMA to make a change," Cinaralp said in welcoming McCarthy to the association.
"I have no doubt I am leaving the association in safe hands and that Adam will successfully lead ETRMA members and the industry through the emerging challenges and opportunities," she added.
Cinaralp took up the ETRMA post in 2006 after 15 years with the Bureau de Liaison des Industries du Caoutchouc Européennes, including six as that group's secretary general.
"With complex challenges lying ahead, in particular the European focus on sustainable growth and digital transformation in the context of the EU Green Deal, ETRMA needs a leader with experience in engaging in the Brussels ecosystem," Annunziato added.
McCarthy's background also includes 3 ½ years spent with Albermarle Corp. as director government affairs, Europea/Middle East/Africa. He holds a doctorate of philosophy from the University of Manchester.
