ATD hires Feder as interim CEO, replacing Schuette

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — American Tire Distributors Inc. (ATD) has hired Michael Feder as interim CEO, replacing Stuart Schuette, who resigned after serving as CEO and president since 2016.

Feder previously served more than 23 years as manager director at AlixPartners, a global consulting firm.

“ATD President and CEO Stuart Schuette has resigned to pursue a new opportunity outside of the industry,” ATD said in a statement.

“We are deeply appreciative of Stuart’s leadership, marked by his empathy for our associates and customers. Stuart is a visionary and guided ATD through an ongoing business transformation with passion and dedication. We wish Stuart and his family every success in all future endeavors.”

According to his LinkedIn profile, Feder served as an "adviser and interim executive for companies across the business cycle from healthy to distressed" while at AlixPartners, and he has "deep experience in general management, operational turnarounds, financial and cash management and capital structure improvements, including chapter 11 proceedings."

His past roles included serving as interim chairman of pizza chain Sbarro, interim CEO of Sara Lee Fresh Bakery division and interim COO of Bally Total Fitness following emergence from a prepackaged Chapter 11.

Of Feder, ATD said: “He brings more than 20 years of experience from his time with AlixPartners where he led several companies across a broad spectrum of industry sectors as interim CEO, advisor and C-suite level executive. ATD hired Schuette as CEO in December 2015, replacing William Berry, who announced his retirement earlier in 2015. Schuette also had a background in the food industry, serving as COO of US Foods, at the time the second largest food service distribution company in the country.

The tire distributor emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in late 2018 after the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware approved a reorganization plan. Earlier that year, ATD reached an agreement with bond holders to reduce the company's debut by $1.1 billion.
