WEST POINT, Miss. — Yokohama Corp. of North America will restart production April 27 at its commercial tire plant in West Point, which the company idled March 28 in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Yokohama said it has implemented several new safety procedures at the plant, based on guidelines set forth by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as well as local authorities.
Yokohama idled the West Point plant March 28. Ten days later, on April 5, it suspended production at its passenger and light truck tire plant in Salem, Va. Both closures were to last about two weeks.
The temporary closures affected approximately 1,400 workers at the two plants.
The status of the Salem plant is unclear.
