PHILADELPHIA — Pep Boys – Manny, Moe & Jack has begun offering a "Touchless Drop-Off and Pick-Up" process at its stores nationwide for tire and auto services scheduled ahead of time as part of the measures it's taking to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.
The retail dealership, part of Icahn Automotive L.L.C., hasn't adjusted business hours in general, but is asking customers to call their local store before visiting because local curfews or limits on who can be served might impact the store's ability to accommodate customers.
Technicians are being provided gloves, seat and steering wheel covers and floor mats for vehicles they work on.
Pep Boys announced the changes in letter posted on its site and signed by Brian Kaner and Chris Cox, CEOs for Pep Boys Service and Parts, respectively.
Pep Boys operates 964 stores throughout the U.S. and Puerto Rico.
In addition, the chain is offering curbside pick-up, where permitted, for parts orders placed online, Pep Boys said.
In terms of which stores are open, Pep Boys said although auto service/repair businesses have been deemed essential, the national guidelines continue to evolve quickly and each state, and in some cases individual cities, have unique requirements it is "working hard to meet."
In addition, Pep Boys said all of its stores and distribution centers have implemented enhanced cleaning and disinfecting practices, while also practicing social distancing; employees have been advised not to come to work if they are feeling ill; and corporate office staff are working remotely.
