MACON, Ga. — Kumho Tire USA Inc. has extended the COVID-19 pandemic-related shutdown of its U.S. plant in Macon at least until April 13.
A company spokesperson said the tire maker will continue to review conditions and determine whether to keep the facility closed through the end of April.
The plant originally was idled April 1 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
During the downtime, the plant leadership was to bring in a cleaning service to conduct a "thorough cleaning and sanitizing" of the plant.
"We are extremely proud of our team members accepting individual accountability in support of health and safety," Keith Lolley, human resources director at the plant, said.
While the shutdown is in effect, Kumho said its plants in South Korea and Vietnam will support U.S. market needs, and it does not anticipate any changes in supply availability or operations.
