RICHBURG, S.C. — Giti Tire (USA) Ltd. will keep its Richburg tire plant idled until May 4 to adjust for "unimproved market conditions" due to the impact of COVID-19.
The 3-year-old passenger and light truck tire factory in upstate South Carolina has been idled since April 5 to adjust for market conditions impacted by COVID-19.
The decision will affect roughly 800 workers at the factory, which has a rated production capacity of 5 million tires a year.
The company's sales and distribution operations have continued to operate to serve company dealers and customers, and Giti management said the company does not anticipate any supply interruptions.
Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.-based Giti Tire said it continues to monitor and follow federal, state and local government guidelines and protocols to ensure the health and safety of its employees, customers, suppliers and communities in all aspects of operations.
Giti Tire (USA) is the sales, marketing and distribution arm of Singapore-headquartered Giti Tire Group. Its brand family includes GT Radial, Primewell and Dextero. It maintains warehouses at its headquarters in Rancho Cucamonga and in Fairburn, Ga.; Coppell, Texas; Pataskala, Ohio; and at the Richburg factory.
