DES MOINES, Iowa — Bridgestone Americas Inc.'s Firestone agricultural tire plant in Des Moines vaccinated 252 employees during the first day of a two-day voluntary on-site COVID-19 vaccination event April 6. The second day of the event is April 8.
Bridgestone also held similar events at plants in Wilson, N.C., and Aiken County, S.C.
The Des Moines plant employs between 1,100 and 1,300 people.
Last year, the company had to mitigate positive COVID-19 cases at the plant — 179 total since the pandemic began, as of February.
The Des Moines plant, in operation since 1945, is the No. 1 agricultural tire facility in the country, according to the company. It produces agricultural, construction, forestry and OTR tires.
The plant manufactures approximately 90% of all agricultural tire products that Bridgestone sells in the U.S. and Canada.
