2. Wear gloves — both in the shop and at the service counter.
3. Sanitize everything — especially when a technician enters and leaves a vehicle.
4. Practice social distancing. Some shops have gone so far as to tape off sections of the floor so customers know where to stand.
5. Offer alternative drop-off options: Encourage customers to drop vehicles off, offer curbside drop-off or pick ups at customers' homes.
6. Schedule split shifts: Placing employees on separate shifts — Monday-Wednesday and Thursday-Saturday, for example — limits employee interaction.
7. Erect a barrier (plexiglass, for example) at service counter. Not only does this limit the spread of the virus, but also gives customers and employees an added sense of security.
8. Create work orders on-line or over the phone — creating as much of a touch-free environment as possible.
9. Offer video vehicle inspections. Instead of walking around the vehicle with a customer, consider doing it via video chat or sending a video.
10. Take temperatures. Especially at larger shops, taking employee temperatures twice a day may help identify an illness before it spreads.
