CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Based on input from its employees, American Tire Distributors Inc. (ATD) earned a spot on Newsweek magazine's "Most Loved Companies" list for 2022.
Newsweek compiled the list based on feedback from employees of the nominated companies to questions about collaboration, teamwork and corporate citizenship.
"In the new age of quiet quitting, companies who are winning at the talent game provide and believe strongly in the benefits of career development to stay ahead," according to Louis Carter, CEO of Best Practice Institute (BPI), Newsweek's partner in the Most Loved Workplaces project.
ATD, with employment of 5,700, is shown as No. 88 on the list.
"The companies on this list represent the best at placing love at the center of their employee's experience," said Louis Carter, CEO, Best Practice Institute. "The number of applications this year and analysis of survey data reinforces our original findings that love is the strongest predictor of the strength of a company's culture, employee engagement, and satisfaction."
"Our ranking on the Top 100 Most Loved Workplaces list further validates the important work we've been doing internally at ATD," Rebecca Sinclair, chief people and corporate affairs officer, said.
"In the past few years, we've reshaped the company's culture to ensure our associates come first. Creating a work environment where people feel knowledgeable, celebrated, and supported has been key to increasing our associates' engagement and happiness at ATD."
In its preface to releasing the 2022 list, Newsweek said that after nearly three years of dealing with COVID-19 pandemic, the workplace has become an unpredictable place, defined in part by the "Great Resignation" and quiet quitting.
Against that backdrop, Newsweek said companies whose employees are most passionate about their employers are those that have been willing to change with the times and work to meet the evolving needs of the people who work for them.
That being said, Newsweek noted that "people got the power" and it's not certain they'll ever give it up again — and the best employers recognize that and act accordingly.
