RICHFIELD, Ohio — Volkswagen of America Inc. has approved the Nexen Roadian GTX as an original equipment fitment on the newly remodeled 2024-model-year VW Atlas SUV.
The four-door, eight-passenger, three-row Atlas is a mid-size SUV designed specifically for the North American market. The 2024 model is the SUV's first major redesign since it debuted in 2018.
Nexen Tire America Inc. will be supplying VW with the all-season Roadian GTX in size 255/50R20, which are shown as the OE spec size for the SE and SEL trim levels. The standard Atlas model is fitted with 245/60R18 tires.
VW assembles the Atlas at its plant in Chattanooga, Tenn.
All 2024 Atlas models are powered by VW's Evo4 engine, a turbocharged 2-liter four-cylinder fuel-injected unit generating 269 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque, delivering that power through the car maker's "4Motion" all-wheel-drive system.
Nexen describes the Roadian GTX as a premium SUV and crossover all-season product that provides high marks in braking, snow and wear performance, along with a "pleasant" ride and optimal balance. Nexen said the tire exhibits improved wear due to "next-generation" rubber compounds capable of withstanding instant high load pressure and tire deformation.
The Atlas fitment continues an OE relationship Nexen has with Volkswagen, including most recently on the 2022 model-year Jetta (Nexen N'Fera AU7).
