MILAN — Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd. has selected summer and winter versions of the Pirelli P Zero and Scorpion lines as exclusive OE fitments on the 2020 Aston Martin DBX, the Luxury car maker's first SUV.
Pirelli Tyre S.p.A. said it worked for nearly three years with Aston Martin engineers to determine the optimum OE fitment for the four-door, five-seat hatchback SUV. The result is three fitments — a P Zero for summer conditions, Scorpion Zero AS for those more interested in off-road performance and Scorpion Winter for winter conditions.
The DBX is powered by a 550-horsepower, 4-liter, twin-turbocharged V8 mated to a nine-speed gearbox, propelling the all-wheel drive model from 0 to 62 mph in 4.5 seconds and a top speed of 181 mph, Aston Martin said.
The tire fitments are 285/40&R22 front and 325/35YR22 rear, Aston Martin said, mounted on 22-inch alloy wheels (10J x 22 front/11.5J x 22 rear).
The joint development work on this fitment included laboratory testing and on-road testing at Pirelli's test track in Vizzola, Italy, while tire performance on ice and snow was honed at Pirelli's winter test facility at Fleurheden, Sweden, the tire maker said.
Pirelli said it developed a hybrid material for the zero-degree overlay belt in the P Zero that offers better steering feel and reduces the tire's overall weight, contributing to reduced rolling resistance.
Pirelli also said its engineers optimized the Scorpion Zero tread pattern to enhance the tire's off-road capabilities and designed the Scorpion Winter for winter traction in temperatures of -22 degrees F.
Pirelli said it's the OE supplier for half of all new Aston Martin models, including the DBS Superleggera and Vantage.
The DBX is on sale now, with deliveries scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2020. The U.S. recommended retail price will be $189,900, Aston Martin said.
