NASHVILLE — It didn't take long for Nokian Tyres P.L.C. to counter a Super Bowl advertisement from General Motors Co.
In GM's Super Bowl ad, three celebrities, — comedians Will Ferrell and Kenan Thompson and actress Awkwafina — poke fun at how Norway sells more electric vehicles per capita that the U.S.
At Mr. Ferrell's urging, the three celebrities head to Norway to address the situation. Instead, Mr. Ferrell takes a container ship to Sweden, while his two partners wind up in Finland.
At the commercial's end, GM touts that it will make 30 new EV models by 2025.
Before the game had reached halftime, Nokia, Finland-based Nokian was promoting a commercial of its own, telling viewers that Norway is, indeed, first in EVs, first in happiness and first in cross country skiing, and that Nokian is first in selling tires in Norway and "makes the best tires for EVs."
Nokian tells GM that it's "in" and greets the auto maker: "Welcome to the journey."
