DEARBORN, Mich. — Ford Motor Co. is recalling a few dozen 2020 model year F-150 pickup trucks because of potential bead area damage to the spare tires.
The action affects 33 vehicles in the U.S. and 51 in Canada that were assembled at the firm's Dearborn Truck Plant during a 10-day period in mid-November (Nov. 10-21).
Ford equips the F-150 with a full-size spare tire, mounted under the bed.
In some affected vehicles, the spare tire bead area may have been damaged when it was mounted to the wheel assembly, Ford said. Cuts or tears can potentially damage the bead wire, leading to corrosion over time, which can lead to separation of the bead wire, resulting in a rapid loss of air pressure and the tire detaching from the wheel.
Ford said it is not aware of any reports of accident or injury related to this condition.
Ford dealers will replace the spare tire. The Ford reference number for this recall is 19S55.
