SAN ANTONIO — General Motors Co. recently honored five tire makers — Bridgestone Corp., Cheng Shin Rubber Co. Ltd./Maxxis, Goodyear, Hankook Tire & Technology Co. Ltd. and Michelin Group — as suppliers of the year for 2022.
These five are among 107 companies honored by General Motors at its 31st annual Supplier of the Year awards ceremony, held recently in San Antonio.
All five also were recognized in 2022.
Lizhong Wheel Corp. also was among the suppliers recognized.
The supplier of the year award recognizes distinguished global suppliers that exceed GM's requirements, in turn providing GM customers with innovative technologies and among the highest quality in the automotive industry.
"We are thrilled to recognize these outstanding suppliers after yet another challenging year in the automotive industry," Jeff Morrison, GM vice president, global purchasing and supply chain, said.
"They overcame countless obstacles and exemplified what it means to be resilient, resourceful and determined. Beyond that, these suppliers demonstrated their commitment to sustainable innovation and to driving advanced solutions in collaboration with the GM team."
The Supplier of the Year award recipients are selected by a global, cross-functional GM team for their performance in business and cultural criteria, including quality, launch, supply chain, total enterprise cost, innovation and engineering, communication and transparency, and safety.
Each of the tire companies singled out this year are multiple-year winners:
For Bridgestone, the honor is the Japanese tire maker's 21st overall recognition and eighth in a row.
For Cheng Shin/Maxxis, Hankook, and Michelin, it's the seventh year in a row the companies have earned supplier of the year honors.
For Goodyear, it's at least the sixth year in a row.
