HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. — A little hard work from 250 Yokohama Tire Corp. volunteers will open the door to a whole lot of play for children living in one southern California community.
On Feb. 27, the Santa Ana, Calif.-based tire maker again partnered with KaBOOM!, a national non-profit dedicated to ensuring all children have safe community places for active play, this time to build a playground structure at Huntington Beach's Oak View Park.
"A dream became a reality for thousands of happy kids," Alan Holtschneider, director of marketing at Yokohama, said in a statement. "For years to come, the new playground will be a fun, safe play area for children and their parents."
The Huntington Beach community took an active role in helping to establish the playground, which included the installation of environmentally safe playground equipment. During a special "Design Day" in January, children and their parents helped to design the playground's look, choosing color schemes and equipment.
This marks the fourth community playground on which the tire maker and KaBOOM! have collaborated. Yokohama employees also took active roles in helping to construct playgrounds in San Juan Capistrano, Calif.; Rockland, Mass.; and West Point, Miss.
