STUTTGART, Germany — Porsche A.G. recently put a new "spin" on its decades of racing at the iconic 24 Hours of LeMans by converting the tires from its 2017 race winner into a limited-edition run of single-sided vinyl records featuring key moments of the car maker's LeMans heritage.
This past weekend, Porsche auctioned 24 of records over a 24-hour period to raise money for Loisirs Pluriel in Le Mans, France, an organization that supports disabled children in France.
Porsche did not say what it intends to do with the remainder of the run of 200 records.
The single-sided LPs don't have audio from the race. Instead they feature 24 minutes of stories from Porsche and racing legends like Hans-Joachim Stuck, Chad McQueen and Wolfgang Porsche documenting Porsche's racing heritage at Le Mans.
Over the past 60 years, Porsche has won the 24 Hours of LeMans 18 times, including in 2015, 2016 and 2017 with the 919 Hybrid model. The records are made from the Michelin racing tires that carried the 919 to victory in 2017, Porsche said.
Porsche also has uploaded the audio on several streaming platforms, as well, including Spotify, iTunes, Amazon Music, Deezer, Napster, Shazam and Anghami.
There's a short video on YouTube with hightlights of the project.
