WASHINGTON — The Subaru brand took first place in Consumer Reports' annual ranking of car brands, edging out Genesis, the magazine's 2018 top choice.
Subaru leaped six places over its 2018 ranking to take the top spot in 2019, its first time ever to do so, according to Jake Fisher, CR senior director of automotive testing.
"This was a bit of a surprise, because usually the winner has more expensive models," Mr. Fisher said at a Feb. 21 press conference at the National Press Club in Washington. "But when you look at their reliability, Subaru cars certainly do very well."
Two Subaru models also were among CR's top 10 individual picks for 2019. The new Subaru Impact was named Best Mid-sized SUV, and the Subaru Forester was the Best Compact SUV for the sixth straight year.
