KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — To raise awareness for tire "donut" safety, Tire Discounters Inc.'s new store in Cedar Bluff, Tenn., is teaming up with a local donut shop to try and beat a donut-stacking world record on Feb. 20.
Tire Discounters will attempt to break the world record for the tallest tower of edible donuts stacked in one minute, using donuts from Duck Donuts, a Knoxville, Tenn., area chain.
During the event, Tire Discounters will offer free tire inspections, including for the vehicle's donut (otherwise known as a spare tire), coupons for $100 off a set of four Cooper tires and a full synthetic oil change for as low as $39.99 — and edible donuts.
The event will be held noon to 4 p.m. on Feb. 20 at the Tire Discounters location in Cedar Bluff, which opened in mid-December.
"Most people don't think about a spare tire until they need it. Tire Discounters hopes this event will encourage our customers to evaluate their 'donut' situation before a problem arises, which will help our Knoxville neighbors to remain safe and ready to roll," said Dave Chirello, Tire Discounters' regional manager in Knoxville.
As for the donut-stacking challenge, according to Guinness World Records Ltd. the tallest stack of donuts created in one minute is 12. It was achieved by Rachael Cholak at Mike's Donuts and Chicken in Kenosha, Wis., on March 30, 2018.
Following the official record-breaking attempt by Tire Discounters at 1 p.m., attendees who pre-register will be invited to attempt to break the world record with their own donut stack.
The donut stack attempt follows another Tire Discounters' world record: a 19.95-ft. tire stack accomplished in 2014.
Tire Discounters entered the Knoxville market with two locations in December, bringing its six-state footprint to 116 stores. Another Knoxville location, at 709 North Campbell Station Rd., is expected to open this spring.
