ATLANTA — Kumho Tire USA Inc. and the National Basketball Association's (NBA) Atlanta Hawks honored a pair of mentors from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta (BBBSMA) in January during National Mentor Month.
Christopher Thomas and Sekou Langevine, "Bigs" who Kumho said have gone above and beyond to impact the lives of Atlanta youth, sat courtside during shoot-around at a Hawks game recently and met several Hawks players along with Basketball Hall of Famer Dominique Wilkins.
The pair watched the Hawks take on the 76ers in Philadelphia, and they also received a new set of tires, courtesy of Kumho. The Hawks hosted 50 Bigs and Littles to a game Jan. 21 — Martin Luther King Jr. Day — against the Orlando Magic.
Shawn Denlein, Kumho Tire's executive vice president of sales and marketing, expressed the company's "appreciation to all of the amazing mentors who bring a positive lasting impact on the lives of young people and inspire our community at the same time."
Kumho said more volunteers are needed as there are more than 500 youths in Metro Atlanta waiting to be matched with a Big Brother or Big Sister.
