TOKYO — BMW A.G. has selected the Yokohama Advan Sport V105 high-performance tire as an OE fitment on the M Performance version of the car maker's X5 sport activity vehicle.
The new X5 model, which launched globally in November, is equipped with 275/40R21 107Y tires on the front axle and 315/35R21 111Y on the rear.
The version of the Advan Sport V105 used on the X5 M Performance model was jointly developed by BMW and Yokohama and features Silentfoam, a polyurethane foam attached to the inside of the tire that reduces tire cavity resonance — the noise created inside the tire as it vibrates while running over uneven road surfaces.
The tires are paired with matte black all-terrain alloy wheels — with an "eye-catching" color BMW M logo — available from BMW as M Performance Parts for the first time.
The Advan Sport V105 is a high-performance tire developed by Yokohama primarily for use on high-power premium vehicles.
This fitment reflects the tire maker's "shifted strategic focus" under its GD2020 three-year medium-term management plan on expanding its premium tire market share. The strategy includes efforts to increase its OE fitments with premium carmakers in Japan and globally.
BMW also is using versions of the Advan Sport V105 on three other recently launched vehicles:
- the second-generation X4 sports activity coupe launched last July;
- the M5, which launched in March 2018; and
- the X3 sport activity vehicle, which debuted in November 2017.
