KOBE, Japan — Toyota Motor Corp.'s Lexus brand has selected Bridgestone- and Dunlop-brand run-flats for as OE fitments on the Lexus UX compact crossover vehicle that hit U.S. dealer showrooms in December.
The Lexus UX — Urban + X-over (crossover) — is a four-door, five-passenger hatchback available in front-wheel and all-wheel-drive versions, powered by a 169-horsepower, 2-liter, 4-cylinder engine coupled with a 10-speed Direct Shift Continuously Variable Transmission (DCVT). The all-wheel version comes with a hybrid-drive system as well.
The Lexus UX is built on the same platform as the Toyota CH-R.
The tire fitment for the new vehicle is either the Bridgestone Turanza EL 450 or Dunlop SP Sport Maxx 050 DSST CTT in size 225/50RF18 95V, according to the Lexus spec sheets.
Sumitomo Rubber Industries Ltd., which makes the Dunlop SP Sport Maxx, said the tires combine run-flat tire technology with "superior" handling and stability and "refined" riding comfort.
SRI said Lexus also has spec'd the same tire, in sizes 235/45R18 94Y and 235/40R19 92Y, for the 2019 Lexus ES sedan being sold in Japan.
