AKRON — Goodyear is raising prices in the U.S. on all of its brands of commercial tires and retreads, most up to 4 percent, effective Dec. 1.
The Akron-based tire maker also is increasing the price of select commercial services, most up to 4 percent, in the U.S. only.
Goodyear said the increases "are in response to higher business costs and reflect the strong value of the Goodyear brand."
This is the second price increase Goodyear has initiated this year. On Sept. 1, it raised prices on "select consumer tire lines" in the U.S., most up to 3 percent. Goodyear also attributed that increase to "rising costs and reflects the strong value of the Goodyear brands."
Michelin North America Inc., meanwhile, said it is increasing rices in the U.S. on commercial products and services Dec. 1 and on passenger and light-truck tires in the U.S. and Canada on Jan. 1.
The commercial price increase of up to 8 percent refers to national account prices in the U.S. for all commercial brands, products and services.
On the consumer side, Michelin will increase prices up to 5 percent for passenger and light-truck tires under the Michelin, BFGoodrich and Uniroyal brands, as well as Michelin-brand two-wheeler tires, sold in the U.S. and Canada.
Other tire makers with upcoming price increases include Toyo Tire U.S.A. Corp. (undisclosed amount, select passenger and light truck tires, by up to 2 percent on most commercial truck tires; Jan. 1) and Bridgestone Americas (raising national account, national fleet and national fleet preferred-account prices on all Bridgestone and Firestone TBR tires and Bandag retreads sold in the U.S. and Canada, effective Nov. 9 and varying by product line and service.)
Bridgestone also raised prices Oct. 1 on all passenger and light truck tires by up to 3.5 percent, varying by product line and 10 percent on Sept. 24 on Dayton-brand TBR tires sold in the U.S. and Canada.
Other recent price increases now in effect include:
- Giti Tire USA (up to 5 percent on passenger, light truck, SUV and CUV tires and up to 10 percent on TBR tires);
- Alliance Tire Americas Inc. (up to 4 percent across all product lines for the Alliance, Galaxy and Primex brands);
- Nexen Tire America Inc. (up to 6 percent on all passenger and light truck tires sold in the U.S.);
- Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. (up to 4 percent on all Cooper-produced passenger and light truck tire brands); and
- Kumho Tire USA Inc. (up to 6 percent on passenger, light truck and medium truck tires sold in the U.S.).
