SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Discount Tire/America's Tire has opened a retail store in Sioux Falls, its first location in the Rushmore state, and has plans to open more over the next couple of years.
The new store, which has six service bays and a 1,300-sq.-ft. showroom, is located a few miles east of downtown Sioux Falls, which is South Dakota's largest city at 183,000 inhabitants.
The new store occupies 7,000 square feet, typical of the dealership's prototype store layout.
Scottsdale, Ariz.-based Discount Tire plans to open a second store in South Dakota in the first half of next year and undisclosed plans for additional stores longer term.
South Dakota is the 35th state where Discount Tire operates. The next closest store is in Sioux City, Iowa, about 80 south of Sioux Falls, which opened in May 2017.
The new store is the dealership's 1,001st retail store. It opened store No. 1,000 on Sept. 12 in northern Phoenix, 58 years after founder Bruce Halle opened the dealership's first store in Ann Arbor, Mich.
