LOS ANGELES — Arnie Sperling, 74, former co-owner of Los Angeles-area tire dealership Globe Tire and Motorsports, died of cancer Oct. 2.
Along with his brother Stan Sperling, Arnie Sperling inherited a tire retailing business from their father and began opening a chain of stores under the Global Tire & Motorsports name in 1969, according to Jay Goldberg, who was the Sperling brothers' business partner.
Arnie Sperling directed the business for years after his brother and partner retired, according to Mr. Goldberg. Arnie Sperling retired in September 2017, selling the last two remaining Globe Tire stores.
According to Arnie Sperling's Los Angeles Times obituary, Globe Tire & Motorsports "not only set an industry gold standard for service to his clients, but was a model of employee-first business practices."
Stan Sperling died in 2015, according to Mr. Goldberg.
Arnie Sperling is survived by his wife of 49 years Lynn Sperling and by other family members.
