NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Bridgestone Americas Inc. has earned LEED Gold certification for Bridgestone Tower, its 30-story headquarters office building in Nashville.
The 514,000-sq.-ft. building received the award for environmentally conscious designs and sustainability features, Bridgestone said. It was completed in December 2017.
The building reduces potable water use with high-efficiency flush and low plumbing fixtures, and uses LED fixtures for interior lighting energy savings, Bridgestone said.
It uses low-emitting materials for adhesives, sealants, paints, coatings, flooring products and composite wood products and furniture and uses recycled content in materials. It also uses low-mercury lamps and incorporates materials manufactured within 500 miles of the project site.
Bridgestone Tower achieved certification for implementing solutions in categories including sustainable sites, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, material and resources and indoor environmental quality and innovation.
Firestone Building Products, a Bridgestone Americas subsidiary, contributed a white reflective roofing system that reduces the roof's surface temperature for greater energy efficiency.
Achieving LEED Gold certification has been a goal for the company since the beginning of the process for the Bridgestone Tower, Christine Karbowiak, chief administrative officer for Bridgestone Americas, said.
LEED certification, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council, has more than 94,000 registered and certified projects in 167 countries. It recognizes green buildings that are designed and constructed for improved environmental and human health performance.

Americas Technical Center in Akron and tire plant in Warren County, Tenn.
