FORT MILL, S.C.— Specialty equipment manufacturer JLG Industries Inc. has designated a new solid tire line from Continental Tires the America L.L.C. as the priority OE tire for its line of telescopic handling machinery, or telehandler, for the next five years.

McConnellsburg, Pa.-based JLG, part of Oshkosh Corp., and Continental jointly developed the TeleMaster, a solid OTR tire that Conti said will be "given priority" as the solid tire for all JLG telehandlers manufactured and sold.

JLG was looking for a "hearty," solid tire for its JLG and SkyTrak telehandlers, Conti said, capable of heavy load bearing and traveling long distances on rough surfaces. Conti said its success with the SC20 tire helped to develop a custom tire with similar capabilities but equipped with a more rugged off-the-road tread pattern.

Conti said the tire offers low rolling resistance, which reduces heat buildup, and has a rugged tread to handle rough worksite surfaces.

"The TeleMaster is a true win-win outcome of the collaboration with JLG," said Pavel Prouza, head of sales and marketing, the Americas at Continental Commercial Specialty Tires business unit.

He said Conti was able to "transfer and extend our sound knowledge of solid tire compounds from the industrial to the OTR tire segment, while providing JLG with a solution tailored to their individual needs."

"We take pride in working with original equipment manufacturers to develop a tire for specific applications," said Carly Shipley, Conti key account manager for OE in North America. "Our expert engineers work closely with our customers throughout the development process."

Conti sources the solid tire line from a plant in Sri Lanka.
