FORT MILL, S.C. — Continental Tire the Americas has expanded its commercial light truck tire portfolio with the Conti LAR 3 all-position tire targeted at the growing mid-size delivery van segment.
Available in three sizes — LT225/75R16, LT235/85R16, and LT245/75R16 — the all-steel radial line is designed to designed to perform in high-scrub conditions faced by regional delivery drivers and at speeds of more than 90 mph under maximum load, Continental said.
The Load Range E tire's 10-ply rating provides increased load-carrying capacity and puncture resistance and its all-steel construction delivers increased retreadability, Conti said, while also claiming up to 32-percent longer original treadlife over leading competitors' products.
Other features include cut-and-chip resistant tread compounds to withstand high scrub conditions, optimal handling with a pattern engineered to minimize stone retention and maximize wet traction and fuel efficiency.
This is the company's first Continental-brand 16-inch commercial light truck tire, a spokesperson said. Conti does, however, have a General-brand commercial light truck tire available, the Grabber HD. That tire launched in early 2017 with 11 sizes, including eight 16- and 17-inch rim LT-Metric sizes and three 15- and 16-inch Euro Van metric sizes.
Conti is sourcing the LAR3 from its plant in Otrokovice, Czech Republic.
Some of the targeted vehicles are the Ford Transit, Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, Ram ProMaster, GMC Savana/Chevrolet Express, etc.
