EL PASO, Texas — Commercial tire dealership/retreader Border Tire has struck a deal with Michelin North America Inc. to acquire five TCi Tire Centers commercial service locations and one MRT retread plant in California.
The deal, which El Paso-based Border Tire said it expects to close Nov. 30, covers the last remaining assets of a commercial tire sales entity that at its peak comprised more than 125 service locations and 17 retread plants.
Border Tire, a Michelin dealer and Oliver rubber-affiliated retreader with five commercial locations in Arizona, New Mexico and Texas, said the deal covers TCi commercial sales/service locations in Bakersfield, Van Nuys, Fontana, Santa Fe Springs and Lakeside, Calif., and the MRT plant in Fontana.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
"Taking on these additional locations will not only grow our customer, base but it will give us the opportunity to give our customers the absolute best service in the Southwest," Border Tire Owner Royal Jones said.
Border Tire's existing locations — all part of the Michelin Commercial Service Network— are in Phoenix and Tucson, Ariz.; Las Cruces, N.M.; and El Paso and Laredo, Texas. The firm's Oliver-system retread plant is in El Paso as well.
Border Tire is a division of Border International, a new and pre-owned truck dealer with bases in Las Cruces and EL Paso. It is active in commercial truck tire sales and service, truck tire retreading and agricultural, earthmover and industrial tire sales and service.
Michelin divested or closed 51 TCi commercial sales locations and eight retread plants in 2017 and early 2018.
