WASHINGTON — Continental Tire the Americas L.L.C. is recalling 1,990 Conti Hybrid HS3 truck tires for possible sudden air loss.

The tires are all size 11R22.5, Load Range H, produced between Feb. 25 and April 7, at Conti's plant in Mount Vernon, Ill., and sold in the original equipment and replacement markets in the U.S., Canada and Mexico, Conti told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

They bear the Department of Transportation codes KWUY 0818 through 1318, the tire maker said.

A tight steel carcass ply may cause the sudden air loss, NHTSA said in its safety recall report. Affected tires may have a bulge or blister in the sidewall, the agency said.

Conti received a complaint of a Conti Hybrid HS3 tire with cords through the inner liner in July, according to NHTSA. The following month, Conti was informed of a truck accident involving pressure loss in a steer tire, it said.

The company has received no reports of injuries related to the recalled tires.

Conti will exchange tires free of charge, including the cost of mounting, balancing and service fees, through Dec. 11, and on a pro-rata basis after this date. Owners of the affected tires are encouraged to complete the exchange as soon as possible.

U.S. customers may call Conti Customer Service at 800-726-7113.

Canadian customers may call 800-461-9681 for service in English or 800-361-2844 for service in French.

    Mexican customers may call 01-800-821-2000.

This is Continental's second recall of this tire line this year. In May, the tire maker recalled 655 Hybrid HS3 medium truck tires, size 11R22.5, Load Range G, because tire cords may be visible through the inner liner. Those tires also were produced at the Mount Vernon plant.
