GYONGYOSHALASZ, Hungary — Apollo Tyres Ltd. has started production of Apollo-brand truck tires at the factory it opened in Gyonghyoshalasz in 2017.
The first truck tires produced at the plant, Apollo Endurace RT HD 385/65R in size 22.5, were shipped to Piessens & Zonen, a Londerzeel, Belgium-trucking company specializing in transportation of construction materials.
"We are pleased with the excellent price/quality ratio of these Apollo tyres," Patrick and Danny Piessens, owners of the Belgian company, said.
"Prior to making the purchase, we carried out very stringent tests, and the results showed all the characteristics of a premium tire. The majority of our trucks and trailers have now been fitted with Apollo truck tires."
Apollo christened production of car and light truck tires in April 2017 at the $505 million plant, Apollo's sixth worldwide and second in Europe. The plant has nameplate capacities of 5.5 million passenger and light truck tires and 675,000 commercial vehicle tires per year.
Apollo Tyres started supplying Apollo brand truck tires to European customers in 2017 after conducting nearly 20 million miles of testing with European clients, Apollo said. The tires carry at least a C-label for fuel consumption and an A-label for wet conditions, the company said, and are covered by a 5-year warranty on any manufacturing issues, and a buy-back guarantee for the carcass, as they can be retreaded multiple times.
Apollo Tyres opened its tire plant in Gyongyoshalasz, Hungary, last April and expects to ramp up production to reach 16,000 passenger car tires by year-end.
