BOWIE, Md. — Tire Industry Association (TIA) members have elected representatives of three independent dealerships and one supplier company to the TIA board of directors for the coming three years.
The new board members — John Baldwin of Discount Tire, Russell Devens of McCarthy Tire Service, Stephen Lyons of Monro Inc. and Don Vanderheyden of Hennessy Industries Inc. — will take office on Oct. 29 at TIA's board of director's meeting in Las Vegas prior to the opening of the 2018 SEMA Show.
In addition, Keith Jarman of AME International has agreed to fill a vacant one-year term.

Mr. Baldwin is the chief product and technical strategist for Discount Tire/America's Tire, where he's worked since 2012. Prior to joining Discount Tire, Mr. Baldwin worked in the research laboratory of Ford Motor Co., where he earned international recognition for his research on tire aging, tire test development, tire service life prediction and the use of nitrogen as a tire inflation media. He also worked for 3M Co. and holds an appointment as an adjunct associate professor of chemistry at Oakland University in Rochester, Mich.
Mr. Devens is the director of safety and risk management for McCarthy Tire Service and is currently a TIA board member. He has more than 30 years of experience in safety, law enforcement, security, insurance, and risk management and is Level 400 commercial tire service TIA Instructor and a Part 48 certified and Part 46 instructor with the Mine Safety & Health Administration (MSHA).
Mr. Lyons is the director of training for Monro. Prior to joining Monro in July 2017, he worked at Bridgestone for 14 years as a retail sales teammate, store manager, district manager and national division education manager, overseeing a unit that supported over 2,200 retail stores and 22,000 teammates.
At Bridgestone, Mt. Lyons sat on Bridgestone's ASE tech council and developed an industry- leading high-school automotive curriculum. In 2018 Monro will be launching Monro Online University a training platform focusing on teammate development and career path progression.
Mr. Vanderheyden is vice president of marketing for Hennessy, where he also has held positions in purchasing, marketing and sales over the past 17 years. Prior to joining Hennessy, he held roles of increasing responsibility at Stihl Inc and also has served as a board member of the Equipment & Tool Institute. .
Mr. Jarman is president of AME and has served on the TIA board since 2009. He started AME International in 2007 after working in the industry for 14-plus years and continues to promote improved ways of changing tires with a focus on large construction and mining/OTR tires.
The new board members were selected from a slate of 17 candidates.
