WEST POINT, Miss. — Yokohama Tire Manufacturing Mississippi L.L.C. (YTMM) has terminated 29 employees because they did not meet "pre-employment requirements."
Yokohama declined to expound on the reasons for the firings beyond its prepared statement, which added that the firm is investigating the situation and has created new measures to prevent this from occurring in the future.
"People are our most important asset at YTMM," Osamu Zushi, president of the West Point company, said in a prepared statement.
"We're extremely proud of our local work force and won't let this unfortunate situation take anything away from the great work they provide."
The plant, a unit of Yokohama Tire Corp., opened in 2015 and produces commercial truck tires with 665 employees.
