AKRON — College football's first opening weekend will mark the debut of Goodyear's latest advertisement in its "Be Blimpworthy" ad campaign, as well as offer fans the first complete game viewing option from a camera perched inside the blimp.
The half-minute version of the ad, a continuation of the "Blimpworthy theme that aired previously, will debut Sept. 1, on games that will be broadcast on ESPN, ESPN2 and ABC. The ad will encourage consumers to "Be Blimpworthy," challenging individuals to embody "Blimpworthy" principles to achieve personal or professional success.
" 'Be Blimpworthy' is rooted in the idea that the blimp only shows up for the most marquee matchups, a level only reached by hard work and perseverance," said Todd Macsuga, general manager of brand marketing at Goodyear.
The campaign highlights the story of a young man focused on playing in front of thousands of fans at a major college football venue. But instead of celebrating his accomplishment, the ad examines the hard work necessary to achieve the outcome.
Meanwhile, Marty Smith and Ryan McGee will provide a complete-game streaming viewing option for fans from inside the Florida-based Wingfoot One blimp during the Florida State-Virginia Tech game on Sept. 3.
Fans will be able to watch on ESPN3 via the ESPN app, while simultaneously seeing the airship's aerial camera.
The blimp first provided aerial views of the 1955 Rose Bowl, and more than than 60 year later, Goodyear's airships continue to cover some of college football's top games.
Goodyear will utilize all three of its newest fleet of blimps to provide aerial coverage of college football games this years.
