WOODRIDGE, Ill. — The Motorist Assurance Program (MAP) is hoping to drum up awareness of the importance of vehicle braking system maintenance by declaring August "Brake Safety Awareness Month."
"August is a great time to think about your vehicle's brakes, with many families wrapping up the summer with a road trip, sending kids off to school and the increase in vehicle use with additional afterschool activities," according to MAP, a program of the Automotive Maintenance & Repair Association (AMRA).
"We encourage all motorist to have their vehicle inspected during the month of August and to learn proper brake system care and vehicle maintenance" AMRA President Jeff Cox said.
Most brake inspections will include measuring the thickness of the friction material, inspection of the brake fluid and checking for leaks, along with a visual inspection of the brake system components, according to MAP.
MAP provides the auto repair industry with a series of Uniform Inspection and Communication Standards that are used to create consistency and transparency in what parts and services are recommended to the motorist.
