Toyo refreshes Proxes line with Proxes Sport 'max' summer tire

CYPRESS, Calif. — Toyo Tire U.S.A. Corp. is refreshing its Proxes performance tire range in the U.S. with the launch of the Proxes Sport, a max-performance summer tire designed to replace the Proxes 1 and Proxes T1 Sport as the line's "flagship" tire.

Available in nearly 70 sizes fitting 17- to 20-inch rim diameter wheels, the Z-rated low-profile Proxes Sport is backed by a 25,000-mile warranty, Toyo said. Among the vehicles for which Toyo is targeting the tire are the Audi R8, BMW M5, Ford Mustang GT, Lexus LC 500h and Porsche 911.

Toyo claims the Proxes Sport offers improved wet and dry contact, grip and handling over the predecessor tires due to the combination of the company's Nano Balance Technology, a high silica-content tread compound and an asymmetric, directional "dynamic taper" tread design.

On sizes 285 mm and wider, the Proxes Sport has an additional center rib — creating a fifth circumferential channel — to help maintain optimum contact with the road.

"Performance plus an extensive size line-up makes it a go-to tire for dealers and drivers outfitting a broad range of modern sports cars and luxury sedans," Kevin Arima, senior product manager, product planning & technical services, Toyo Tire U.S.A. Corp., said.

The company did not release any pricing information.

The range is built in Toyo's plant in Miyagi, Japan.

Other lines that carry the Proxes designation include the Proxes R1R extreme performance summer tire; Proxes T1R "stylish" high-performance summer tire; Proxes 4 Plus all-season UHP tire; Proxes ST III premium street/sport light truck all-season tire; and Proxes S/T all-season stylish light truck tire.

Toyo Tire Canada Inc. launched the Proxes Sport in April.
