WASHINGTON — The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has granted Continental Tire the Americas L.L.C.'s petition for a finding of inconsequential noncompliance in the case of 111,500 mismarked tires.

The tires, manufactured between Dec. 2, 2012, and March 25, 2017, are as follows:

    • XL Continental CrossContact UHP tires, size 255/55R18 109Y.
    • Barum Brillantis 2 tires, size 175/70R13 82T.
    • Continental ContiTrac tires, size P225/70R15 100S.
    • XL General Grabber UHP tires, size 275/55R20 117V.
    • Continental ExtremeContact DWS tires, size 285/30ZR20 99W XL.
    • Continental CrossContact LX20 tires, size 245/75R19 103S.
    • XL Continental CrossContact LX20 tires, size 285/45R 114H.
    • General Altimax RT43 tires, size 215/45R17 87V.

Because of mold errors, the number of tread plies indicated on the sidewalls of these tires do not match the actual number, Conti told NHTSA.

In one tire, the listed ply material was incorrect, the tire maker said.

Conti said the errors were inconsequential to tire or vehicle safety. They had no real bearing on tire performance, and NHTSA has ruled as much in previous petitions on similar issues, it said.

The NHTSA notice may be found at gpo.gov.
