WASHINGTON — Achieva Rubber Corp. is recalling 284 Innova-brand specialty trailer tires because some of them may fail federal truck tire strength tests.
The tires being recalled — 239 Innova Ultra Runner 5.30-12 and 45 Innova Ultra Runner 4.80-12 — are six-ply tires manufactured between Jan. 1, 2014, and Sept. 20, 2017, at Innova Rubber Co. Ltd.'s plant in Nancun Town, Guangzhou, China, according to information Torrance, Calif.-based Achieva provided to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Achieva told NHTSA the tires lacked sufficient nylon belt material in their construction. The company estimates that 2 percent of the tires would fail the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 119 strength tests.
Achieva will replace the tires free of charge with tires with an added nylon belt for reinforcement, the company said. It notified dealers of the recall the week of July 9 and will notify owners the week of Aug. 6, it said.
This recall overlaps with another from October, involving discount tool retailer Harbor Freight Tools. That recall covered 173,557 Innova Ultra Runner- and Far East-brand replacement trailer utility tires, which were sold mounted on replacement trailer rims.
