    NIAGARA FALLS, Ontario — Individuals considering attending the 2018 Rubber Recycling Symposium in Niagara Falls Nov. 7-8 have until Aug. 31 to receive the "early-bird" registration rate of $495 Canadian (approximately $380 U.S.),

    "Taking Sustainability to the Next Level" is the theme of the symposium, being organized by the Tire and Rubber Association of Canada (TRAC), the U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association and eTracks Tire Management Systems.

    "The symposium brings together international experts and professionals from the tire and rubber manufacturing sectors (and) the rubber recycling industry, including processors, transporters, equipment manufacturers and stewardship organizations," TRAC said. Officials from government and academic will also attend, the association said.

    "The event offers a unique opportunity to explore the varied approaches to extended producer responsibility, and to compare successes and opportunities for delivering and meeting our industry's goals," TRAC said.

    The Nov. 7 program for the symposium is as follows:

    • "Global Overview of Sustainability Initiatives in Tire Recycling," featuring international experts on global trends and legislative initiatives in recycling;
    • "Tire Manufacturing — The Future of Sustainability is Now," about advances in sustainable natural rubber production and substitutes for traditional natural rubber;
    • "Tire Stewardship in Ontario — Transition to Individual Producer Responsibility," about changes in Ontario's scrap tire management laws; and
    • "Searching for Sustainable Markets," addressing the sustainability, market potential and trends for such products as tire-derived fuel, sports infill, rubberized asphalt and rubber/plastic composites.

    On Nov. 8, the program will be:

    • "Tire Industry Project Update," about identifying and addressing the health and environmental effects of materials associated with tire production;
    • "Tire Stewardship in Ontario—Industry's Response to Individual Producer Responsibility," about tire makers' responsibilities under new end-of-life tire requirements beginning Jan. 1, 2019; and
    • A panel of tire industry CEOs offering their insights on sustainability and individual producer responsibility.

    The event will be held at the Sheraton on the Falls Hotel in Niagara Falls.
