DEKALB, Ill. — Automotive lift manufacturer and supplier SVI International Inc. has acquired brake resurfacing lathe producer RELS Manufacturing Inc., effective June 8.
RELS produces brake resurfacing lathes used in automotive and heavy duty repair shops, and it also serves as a supplier of products and repair parts for different makes of commonly used brake lathes.
DeKalb-based SVI said in a news release that the acquisition demonstrates its "firm commitment to the automotive service equipment industry and the distributors SVI serves. Wheel and brake service products have been an important part of the ever-growing SVI success story. "
SVI said both models of the RELS brake lathes, the standard RELS 2000 and the heavier duty RELS 2000XL, will remain available under the RELS name as an SVI brand. SVI said it will work to enhance the overall RELS product line.
The brake lathes feature variable speed gear box to allow technicians to machine rotors faster, SVI said, while achieving the best possible finish. The gear box design eliminates maintenance costs of mechanical gears found in other lathes, according to SVI.
In the past, family-owned SVI has acquired Ronflo Manufacturing, Globe Automotive Lifts, Miller & Smith and the former Gilbarco/Manitowoc Automotive Lift line.
