MANILA, Philippines — The Federation International de l'Automobile (FIA) has extended Goodyear Dunlop Tires Operations S.A.'s contract as the exclusive supplier of competition tires for the European Truck Racing Championship for three more seasons, through 2021.
The decision, disclosed by the FIA at its recent World Council meeting in Manila, is in an extension of a three-year agreement granted Goodyear Dunlop in 2016 — the first year of the series under FIA management — and comes after the FIA opened the supply to an open tender process.
The series is open to two-axle road tractors homologated for the transportation of merchandise with a minimum Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) of 18 metric tons. Engines must be commercial based and limited to a maximum of 13 liters capacity. Top speed is restricted to 99 mph.
The spec tire is size 315/70R 22.5. The minimum tread depth at the start of each race must be at least 2 millimeters. Retreads are not allowed.
The 2018 championship consists of eight race weekends at tracks in Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Slovakia and Spain. Each weekend comprises four championship races of about 30 miles each.
