WESTLAKE, Ohio — TravelCenters of America L.L.C. is adding retreading to its portfolio of services, acquiring an idled retread plant in Bowling Green, Ohio, that it's converting to a Goodyear Authorized Retread Network plant.
“Adding a retread center to the TA Truck Service Commercial Tire Network portfolio reconfirms our commitment to expanding the array of tires we offer to our customers,” said Skip McGary, executive vice president, commercial operations of TravelCenters.
“Not only will we be producing a quality Goodyear retread product, but we will also be able to provide a complete cradle-to-grave tire management program.”
The 32,000-sq.-ft. plant — housed in the former Ironhead Rubber Technologies facility in Bowling Green — is expected to start production in July.
Capacity was not disclosed. Production will include Goodyear's line of UniCircle spliceless retreads.
Once operational, it will supply its TA Truck Service facilities in the upper Midwet, located within a 150-mile radius around Bowling Green.
TA paid about $2.7 million to buy the plant, and has earmarked an additional $2.9 million for renovations and new equipment, including a Shearography casing inspection system.
