BOWIE, Md.—"Tire Safety Starts with Inflation" is the title of the new video the Tire Industry Association has released to celebrate National Tire Safety Week.
The video is the latest in a series of consumer information videos that address subjects such as winter tires, tire pressure monitoring systems, inspection, tire selection, tire registration and installing spare tires, TIA said in a May 23 press release.
"Tire Safety Starts with Inflation explains the importance of proper tire inflation and the potential consequences of underinflation and overloading, the association said. The video stresses the need for checking tire inflation regularly and using the inflation pressure listed on the vehicle's tire placard, not the sidewall, as a guide to proper inflation levels.
The video also includes animation that shows what happens inside the tire when sidewalls experience over-flexing and dangerous levels of internal heat that break down the bonds between components, causing a tread separation, TIA said.
The video and other TIA tire safety videos can be found on its website and its YouTube channel. Tire retailers and manufacturers may include the link or embedded code on their websites or social media outlets without restrictions or rights fees, TIA said.
This year's National Tire Safety Week runs through May 28. Sponsored by the U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association (USTMA) with the partnership of TIA and other organizations, National Tire Safety Week reminds consumers of the importance of proper tire inflation and maintenance. This year, the USTMA added information about the potential dangers of unsafe used tires.
