MISSISSAUGA, Ontario — China's Sailun Jinyu Tyre Co. Ltd. has taken over Canadian wholesaler Dynamic Tire Inc. and converted Dynamic's Husky Tire Corp. affiliate to Sailun Jinyu International and moved it to separate quarters in Brampton, Ontario.

The revamped distributor handles the Blacklion, RoadX and Ironhead brands, sourced from Sailun Jinyu factories in China and Vietnam, according to Darrin Bossence, vice president of sales.

Dynamic Tire, a company with a 48-year history in tire distribution, continues to handle in Canada the Diamondback and Wind Power brands that Husky Tire previously handled, along with Aeolus, Aurora, Dynamo, Galaxy, Henan, Mirage, Primex, RoadRider and Triangle brand products.

Dynamic also distributes Pirelli- and Formula-brand truck tires in Canada under terms of an agreement signed last year with Prometeon Tyre Group.

United Tire had been an independent company since its founding 1944 by Husky Sherkin. Originally focused solely on the OTR market, Dyanamic over the years expanded into many more segments.

Husky Sherkin's son Robert Sherkin is credited with helping found Tianjin United Tire in 1970 to produce a United brand OTR tire for Canadian mining customers.

The company transitioned to GPX Tire from 2005-2010 after merging with U.S. OTR tire distributor Galaxy Tire. The imposition in 2007 of antidumping and countervailing duties by the U.S. government on OTR tires from China forced GPX's U.S. operations to close, and the business reverted to Dynamic Tire in 2010.

Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed. Robert Sherkin and Peter Koszo are still listed as the company's CEO and chief operating officer, respectively.

Sailun Jinyu was the 27th largest tire maker on Tire Business' 2017 Top 75 Global Tire Makers list, with 2016 sales of $930.7 million.

The Dongying City, China-based company is the result of the 2014 merger of Sailun Tire Co. and Shandong Jinyu Industrial Co. The group operates plants in China and Vietnam and a natural rubber processing base in Thailand.
